The success of any organization, agency, business or profession, educational institution or community depends upon the character of its people. As a non-profit, the success of the Prattville-Autauga Character Coalition also depends upon a partnership and commitment of these same groups of citizens. We have witnessed this partnering in a number of ways, and are most grateful for it.
Organizations have shown their commitment by having a "character moment" at the beginning of their meetings. They have provided financial assistance which affords us the opportunity to impact many more individuals withour message of good character.
The Prattville City Council announces the monthly character trait at the start of its bi-monthly meetings. The City of Prattville also provides in-kind services so that the City website and that of the Character Coalition are linked. The City webmaster provides technical assistance with our website www.pacharacter.org. The Autauga County Commission and the City of Prattville have provided both financial and in-kind services. The Chamber of Commerce provides office space, and the Prattville Water Works Board includes the monthly character trait on its billing statements.
Several churches use the monthly character trait on their marquees and in their bulletins or newsletters. Pastors and youth leaders have used the traits as a basis for devotionals or sermons. Schools use the traits as themes for bulletin boards, student newspapers and marquees. The Autauga County Board of Education makes sure that all teachers and support personnel with computer access receive the E-Bulletin each month. Some schools, both public and private, use the trait and the Pledge of Allegiance during morning announcements, as themes for their bulletin boards, in student newspapers and on marquees. We have access to information for teaching character education which we gladly share. The character trait is announced over the radio and to the crowd attending Prattville High football games.
Individuals serve as volunteers, on the board of the Prattville-Autauga Character Coalition, and as members of the focus steering committees which are charged with implementing goals in specific areas.
It is our hope that others will find creative ways to introduce character traits and support the Character Coalition in fostering and implementing good character. Please contact Boo Rogers at (334) 365-7392 or by email at pacharacter@prattvillechamber.com if you would like to become involved.
